Barcode Generator
Generate CODE128, EAN, UPC and other barcodes.
Frequently asked questions
- Which format should I use?
- CODE128 is the most flexible — it accepts any ASCII text. EAN-13 and EAN-8 are retail product codes (12/13 and 7/8 digits in Europe); UPC is the US retail equivalent. CODE39 accepts uppercase letters and digits.
- Do I need a checksum?
- For EAN and UPC the check digit is computed automatically when you enter 12 (EAN-13) or 7 (EAN-8) digits; 13-digit EAN-13 and 8-digit EAN-8 inputs are validated instead.
- What is the difference between PNG and SVG output?
- PNG is a fixed-resolution bitmap that is easy to paste into documents and web pages. SVG is vector output that stays sharp at any size, which makes it the better choice for labels and professional printing.
- Why is my EAN or UPC value rejected?
- Retail formats have fixed lengths and a mandatory check digit. Enter the digits without the check digit to have it computed, or enter the full value to have the checksum validated. EAN-13 accepts 12 or 13 digits; EAN-8 accepts 7 or 8; UPC-A accepts 11 or 12.
- Can I use these codes on products I sell?
- Only with a valid prefix. Retail EAN and UPC numbers must be licensed from GS1; this tool renders the bars but does not register or assign product codes. CODE128 and CODE39 are fine for internal labels, inventory and shipping workflows.
About this tool
Barcodes encode short strings as black and white bars that scanners read. This generator supports CODE128 and CODE39 for general text, plus the retail standards EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A and ITF-14, including automatic check-digit calculation. Everything is rendered locally in your browser.
